IIM Ahmedabad refutes 1 crore offer news. Recently there was an article in TOI on 15th October which mentioned that 2 students of IIM A have got PPO offers of over Rs 1 crore. IIM Ahmedabad has responded back by claiming the figures are not yet clear. IIM A says that they will share the maximum, mean, median and minimum salary figures (international and domestic separately) at the end of the placement process.
Placement process is still in progress at the institute so it is premature to say anything about a particular company as ‘top’ recruiter. According to placement committee, the recruiter has not shared complete details of the offer, and the partial data they have does not support the claim by the media.
Last year on 22 February, 2010 there was similar news published in Economic Times which was again responded by similar reaction on the blog of IIMA. Then there was another news on Feb 26, 2011 in Economic Times with heading ‘Deutsche Bank top recruiter at IIM-A with Rs 1.5-crore offer’ which was again opposed by IIM A.
As per the information shared on the blog, they have said that the offers being made are in foreign currency and media aggravates the news by converting the amount in Rupees and secondly all the details have not been provided by the recruiter so they can’t support the news.
Professor Mukherjee at IIMA blog said that most B-schools report only median salaries and not highest salaries. A student should not take decision of joining a B-school on the basis of highest salary offered but should look at the profile of job offered at the campus and the kind of development that they will experience through the education and environment. MBA aspirants should not go by highest salaries but must consider average salary package offered that too after making reduction from CTC to arrive at take home salary.
